The 2 Gaps – a Classic
The Gap is where its at. A big day with big climbs and fab views, its a classic for a reason. Enjoy the day even more by following someone who knows the best way to ride it…
Riding the Gap
You can’t visit Bannau Brycheiniog (the Brecon Beacons) without doing this classic route in the heart of the National Park. Taking in two lofty mountains passes, we first start by climbing up past the reservoir to Bwlch y Glasgwn (Blue Valley Pass) & then head down the super flowy mountain track to Cwm Callan. From here it’s around the copper canyon fire road & up to the famous Bwlch ar y Fan, better known as The Gap. After a pause for lunch we start a 3 1/2 km rocky descent down the old drove road to the hill gate. Its then a relatively mellow pedal to the start via a network of small roads, bridleways & the canal towing path. This is a big day out, with big views to match!
We will meet at the Talybont Bike Hub between 9:30 and 10am aiming to ride by 10:00. It's a long and big day in the mountains, so please come prepared. We will have cake, and we can work in a coffee stop on the way around if everyone wants to.
Please bring:
Waterproofs
Extra layer
Extra gloves
Brake pads and spare tube
Basic tools for any repairs on the trail
